Art Important In Conflict Resolution : Australian Expert

Banda Aceh ( Berita ) :  Dr John Synott from the Peace and Conflict Study Center of the University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia, said here Friday that art is very important in conflict resolution.

“Art cannot be separated from the social sciences and is very important in conflict resolution,” the visiting Australian scholar said at a seminar at the Syiah Kuala university.

According to him, communication equation is also needed to overcome misunderstandings.  Relating to art as an important factor in conflict resolution, he explained the case of children in Hiroshima, Japan, who became victims of the atomic bomb who  poured out their feelings in  drawings.

“The children poured whatever they felt in  drawings so we know what they are feeling , although not expressed in words and this is very effective,” John Synott said.

He also said that the community will continue to change so that peace education is necessary for all days to come.  In addition,  peace education should be focused on the younger generation but also involve the entire community, he said. ( ant )
